We use only white, tooth-colored filling materials to restore teeth that have cavities (caries). To treat a cavity, the decayed portion of the tooth is removed and then “filled” with a material that restores form and function of the tooth. Once the decayed portion is removed, a special adhesive bonding material is placed on the tooth, and then the filling is placed. If the decay is deep and gets close to the nerve, Dr. D will place a liner to help protect the nerve before the bonding material is placed. After the filling is placed, it is then adjusted as necessary and polished until smooth.
